Happy Birthday Leanne!  Hope you have a great day!

The Pottery Barn Rug Smell, I guess, has been a hot-button issue this week.  Once again I received another hit yesterday because of it.  Only this time, this person left a comment with their insight in regards to why the rugs smell.

Crazy4Rugs says it's not the wool, it's not the moisture, but it is the latex backing that holds the rug together.  I just quickly examined the rug and I really can't say what kind of backing the rug has.  It looks like a heavy woven fabric for lack of better words, but I guess some type of latex layer could be between there?  Maybe holding everything together?  I do know that something in the rug HAS to be dependent on the moisture level in the house.  I'm not saying that it's because of the moisture in the house is why the rug smells in the first place, just wherever the smell is coming from, moisture makes it worse.  My nose is always on point and when we got 14" of rain within a couple of weeks during the summer, the smell was at its peak.
I'm happy that someone left a comment in regards to the rug smell.  Thank you, Crazy4Rugs, for sharing your thoughts.

Big plans this weekend, folks.  It's "Christmas in the Village" this Saturday.  This is our town's annual Christmas celebration and, just like last year, it's supposed to be freezing.  Truly, I don't think these crazy people would have it any other way.

The day is full of open houses, seeing Santa, carriage rides, contests, bonfires, caroling, lighting of the Village Christmas tree, and I could go on and on.  Vance is into Santa this year, so he's pretty excited, as are we.

The high for Saturday is 26 with 60% chance of snow.  Think of us on Saturday night while you're inside and doing something very adult-like.  We'll be standing out in the open waiting for Santa to be dropped off by a fire engine.

Someone from California Googled "wool rug smell" yesterday and found my site.  Another person from Maryland Googled "Pottery Barn rugs smelly" yesterday and also found my site.  That brings us up to 6 poor souls, with stinky rugs, reaching out for help.

Yesterday I got all crafty and tried to create the Golden Washed Pillar Candle from Pottery Barn.  I couldn't get a picture of the real ones, so here's a link.  If you do go to the link, click on 'more images' to get a close up.  I checked them out in the store and the picture doesn't do them justice.  I forget how much they were and they're sold out online, but I figured I saved myself some money.

I started with a vanilla candle, the larger ones retailed on sale for $4.89 and the smaller ones for 3 something.  I know the smaller candles are too short, but I was tired of looking for candles and figured these would do.  I always have spray glue on hand and had to buy a bottle of Martha Stewart's glitter, which was $4.99.  The glitter was worth every penny and really goes a long way.  (I'm racking my brain for more stuff to glitter...)

Overall, I didn't get the exact candle.  Probably not even close.  I did get the metallic sheen I was going for and I've never seen a store bought glittered candle that's been so sparkly.  I'm just happy that my mantel is done and I can move on to decorating my dining room table.

Just wanted to let everyone know that a few days ago I received yet another hit from someone who Googled "smelly pottery barn rugs".  I believe that's the 4th person who has found my site because of the stink.  That's all for now.

As promised, there's a picture from the beach.  I've run into my first issue with converting from a PC to a Mac, so Help! Mac users.  After I uploaded the picture I wasn't able to add text to the page.  Is this a fluke or is there something I need to do differently?

Yesterday, instead of unpacking suitcases, we decorated for Christmas.  Vance is all about the tree this year. The majority of our energy yesterday was spent telling Vance to stop messing with the tree.  He likes to twist the light bulbs, which results in the whole strand going out.  (We found the one he twisted, so all the lights are working now)  He likes to rearrange the ornaments.  And he also likes to add his toys and other random things to the tree.

When we were done with the tree and stood back to admire our work Vance got excited and asked us to sing Happy Birthday.  He did the same thing when we were done hanging ornaments on the tree in his room.  Although, it's his favorite song right now and he sings it randomly throughout the day, I'm guessing the tree lights remind him of birthday candles. Strange little man he is.

We went to Target to buy new outdoor lights yesterday late afternoon.  The parking lot should have been evidence alone to let us know what was going on inside.  We ignored it, went in and found about 134 people, crying babies, and carts in the outdoor light section alone. Not liking crowds and the mass public in general, it was not a good experience.  We were toying with the idea of not using our standard little white bulb for the outside and to look for something else with more character.  I can't think in situations like that, so we bought about 3 boxes of every style we liked, so we could decide in the peace of our own home.

Guess who's back

We made it back home from our Turkey Day Extravaganza today. Justin and I had driven to STL on different days, so we each had a car to drive today. The drive was especially long today. Vance was restless the last half and kept asking me to "Please turn the car off Mommy". A few minutes of silence had passed and I thought he had fallen asleep. I turned my head to check and found him gazing out the window, dreamily, with an orange crayon hanging out of his left ear. That was good for a laugh. To make the day even longer we all went to the grocery store tonight. We've been away for 12 days, so there was nothing food wise en la casa.

While I was away I got a new computer and it turns out that I'm a Mac girl now. This is the first time I've really played around with it and I'm liking it. I haven't worked on a Mac since college and it's a little awkward. Where's my Backspace key?

I should have some pictures of Vance at the beach up tomorrow or Monday.

Flew to Florida today and Boy! are our arms tired!

Monday, November 12, 2007

Our washer and dryer were getting old. They were tired, grumpy, and beginning to disrupt the harmony of life around here.

Their first targets? Our sheets. The manipulative machines wouldn't let them be washed together anymore. Maybe they were jealous, but to have to wash the fitted sheet and the top sheet on separate cycles was just plain mean.
We put an end to their malicious ways this weekend.
Onwards to using less energy! (The old washer used 940 kWh per year. The new one only 167.) And onwards to happier sheets and clothes!

Martha's Day & Flu Shots

We're thinking about Martha today, because it's her birthday.

We're also thinking that because it's Martha's birthday that it's okay to have cupcakes for breakfast.

What I'm trying not to think about is the pain in my left arm caused by the Flu Shot Fairy yesterday.

Vance got one too. And the Fairy put a band-aid on it. Since then he has been calling the band-aid a "bing bang". I've been egging him on to say it more often and haven't been correcting him. Why? Because it's funny and that's one of the perks of parenthood.

Happy Birthday Martha! Hope you have a great day!

Yesterday I turned the big 2-9. Thanks to everyone who sent such thoughtful birthday wishes my way! The day ended with chocolate cupcakes and too many gifts. I'm a lucky girl. Even if my hair is falling out.

Almost 14 weeks pregnant and here's what's going on:

  • Less hair. The increase in hormones is making my hair fall out. We're on our second bottle of Draino. Who says pregnancy isn't the most magical time of your life?
  • Super Human Smelling Powers. We've talked about the dining room rug* and Justin has had to stop chewing spearmint gum. These are just two of many on my list so far. Are you wearing perfume? Yes you are! And it smells 10 times stronger to me!
  • Acne. Pretty self-explanatory. I believe a chemical peel will be in order after the baby is born. Yea!

*I've had 2 hits from people doing Google searches for "Pottery Barn Rug Smell". Proof that it's just not me.

The Target Debacle

It's been 5 days since my last post. Some may think the reason why is that we've been too busy jam packing the day with fun and educational activities. Those persons would be wrong.

Vance and I have been to Target 3 times in the past 5 days.

The first trip was to elbow our way through the crowds trying to get Halloween stuff 50% off and to stock up on house stuff. We did get a few good deals, one being a storage container for $3.49. I got home, packed up our Spooky stuff from around the house and went to put the lid on the container. Eff, wrong sized lid. This is what happens when I attempt to organize.

The second trip was to get the right sized lid and a couple of things I had forgotten the day before. Many trips back and forth from the Halloween section to the normal container section later, still not a right fit could be found. Where's my Cinderella?

(For clarification purposes, I only brought the lid back to the store. Not the actual container itself. I had written down what size of container I had bought, so I used one of the normal containers as a guide.)

The third trip was to return the glorious orange and black 22 gallon pain in the ass contraption. A total of $3.68 was returned back on my credit card. Funny, I think I spent double that just on gas getting there and back. And there and back. And there and back. However, I did pick up more diapers, because you know, you always need more diapers and a shirt that was 30% off for Vance.

Target always comes out ahead. Even if you're only there to make a return.
