My big little girl

While at the park today I noticed the writing on the side of Vaughn's car seat. Two numbers jumped out at me, a 2 and a 0.

No. Can't be.

The car seat is only good for up to 20 pounds. I weighed her today. 20 pounds. She can't sit up in shopping carts yet and when she's in the Baby Bjorn her legs lose blood circulation. Propping her up in the cart won't work, she'll just fall forward. Not really sure what I'm going to do now. Need suggestions!

hey kease - the kids' dr. always told us that they have to meet both height and weight requirements to move out of those carrier/pumpkin seats. I dont know if that helps. it might be worth looking into though. Miss V is healthy like my boys were. Ella is only 17lbs and still feels big to me. how is your back holding up? ;)

Wow. That's a McFarlandy look if I ever saw one.

I don't know about the carseat; I would most likely get her out of it though and into a bigger one. You might have to risk her circulation and bjorn her while you are in the store shopping just until she is steady enough to hold her body up by herself.

  3. I don't know how you have been carrying her around in that car seat. You must have some serious guns! I don't know if you would want to invest in those new sling things, but that might be better to use to tote her around in. That way her circulation in her legs don't get cut off. I have a sling, but only used it a few times. I can bring it by for you, if you want to try it out.

  5. thanks for all the comments!

the car seat is good up until 20 lbs. and 26 inches. she's 20 lbs. and 25.5 inches, so I think it's time to switch her. i bjorned her last weekend while picking apples - it killed my back and i tweaked my shoulder somehow while carrying her. think i'll have to strap her in the shopping cart good and tight and lean her up next to the diaper bag. my silver lining is getting rid of the big stroller that goes with the car seat. it's huge and hard to use in tight places. our smaller one we used for vance is broken so hello! new stroller time! going to check out the ones where vance can stand behind the seat part...

Let me know what you find on the sit n stand strollers. I would love to have one, but the ones I've seen (and I haven't looked hard) only hold a kid up to 40lbs on the standing part. I don't know that Carter is going to gain 8lbs soon, but I would hate to buy one and then have him grow out of it less than a year later. Anyway, you have to watch the weight on those too. Let me know if you find a good one. I have only checked Babiesrus website and One Step Ahead catalog, so I could easily be missing the obvious.

i checked with my brother-in-law becaues he used to work for Graco and he said that my doc was wrong. go figure. have fun shopping for a new stroller. my sister bought a Joovy stroller and LOVES it. I think it's orange or green. It folds up really small and the bigger kiddos can sit or stand in the back. love those baby cheeks!!

  9. Way late to the discussion. Graco (I think) makes a pumpkin seat that goes up to like 30 or 35 pounds. Moneywise, it might be better to buy a reversable car seat--one that can do the forward-facing thing once your daughter hits a year old. And either she's really ginormous for her age, or she'll figure out how to sit up soon enough. Just pick a cart with a working strap, or get one of the padded shopping cart covers (ours was like $15 and came with its own strap that you could wrap around the cart seat bars and a support cushion and toys for the kiddo to play with).

Yikes...neither of my kids were a solid 20 pounds by their first birthday...I couldn't let either ride forwards till like 14 or 15 months old (and that was pushing it by a few ounces)...I think my kids are at the opposite end of the growth chart from yours
