Need some advice! What do I get Vance's teachers for Christmas?

At his old school, we did gift certificates for both teachers. It's kind of nice - there's a list of what places the teachers would appreciate gift certificates from - so it was an easy buy. Not to mention how much I liked his old teachers, so I didn't mind buying for them.

So this has been the second week of going to the new school and I don't know what to do with his new teachers. And he has 3 of them! After already buying for two, I don't want to go broke buying for 3 more.

So, my question - especially for those teachers out there - what's a good gift idea?

  1. when isaac was in pre-k he had a regular class & a speech therapy class & 3 class helper. i nearly went broke that year. what i ended up doing was buying really big coffee mugs and filling them with b&b lotions, and misc goodies, an ornament that Isaac made, candy - stuff like that. in the end i dont know if was really that much cheaper though. lol good luck with that one. i am going back and forth over what to get the teachers this year, too.

  2. You could just go to crate and barrel or william sonoma and get a tin of cookies. There are some that are only $10. They are all really good and it comes in a cute tin, so it looks nice too. I can't believe that Vaughn has 6 teeth. She has caught up with Samuel for now. I see his second middle tooth, so I am sure it will cut through soon. Not fun!

Just so you know, teachers throw food away especially if it is homemade. Not always, but a lot of the time. I know this seems harsh, rude and even ungrateful. We don't mean to be, but there is no way to eat all the food and since there is always too much food everywhere at the holiday time it is not even realistic to share it all. I have a drawer full of coffee mugs too. How many of these can a person possibly have? Again, don't think that I am horrible--when a kiddo and his parents think to bring me a mug or cookies I am always amazed at their generosity and thoughtfulness, BUT, I am just being honest with you here.

So I think if you actually want the person to use your gift you should stick to gift cards even in the smallest of amounts. It is fun to get a $10 gift card to Bread Co--it buys lunch. Starbucks for $10--even if they don't like coffee they most likely like hot chocolate. A Christmas ornament is always special too--I have several on my tree from kids over the years. I have had kids bring me a very small bouquet of flowers or Christmas cactus or poinsettia and that is nice too.

Teachers are always excited to get anything to show that you are thinking of them so however small the amount, it will for sure be appreciated by the teacher. Sorry I rambled...

  4. Ideas... I got a free car wash coupon and I also got $5.00 off coupons for the movies. I thought both were useful. You don't have to spend $10 each. They like homemade things (like my book worm than Vance likes). That was given to me by a student. A coffee mug is always cool...maybe paint something personal on it. Bath and Body hand soap was another popular item. They don't expect expensive things.

Sorry it's me again, but I just thought of you. I am home this morning so I am actually watching the Today show and laughing at the fact that they are showing "great gifts for teachers." They are showing things like personalized items from pottery barn, digital cameras, robes, digital frames, etc. I am not sure who can afford these items!!!! I just laughed because you don't have to spend hardly anything to show someone is appreciated....

Just make them a ham sandwich, and when they make a weird face say, " Its a ham sandwich, thats all you are getting this year damn it!"

Are you kidding me? Isn't that a bit presumptuous of the teachers to give a list of stores they would like gift certificates from? I mean - are they registering for something like a wedding or a baby shower? I wonder what Mrs. Manners would say...?
