NaBloPoMo Day 2: Halloween Recap

Beyond my better judgement, I introduced the kids to The Watcher in The Woods, a scary movie that I remembered watching as a kid. Of course they were scared to death, but wanted to keep watching, and you guessed it: no one slept well that night.

The next day was Friday, Halloween, and the kids didn't have school. We enjoyed a lazy morning, carved pumpkins, were notified that Vaughn won a coloring contest (she was so excited!), ate lunch out (soup!), and I victoriously intercepted the TV when the kids were unknowingly watching Poltergeist. (Phew! That was a close one.)

One minute Hocus Pocus is coming to an end and then the next minute the mother of all scary movies comes on without warning. I walked into the room while asking what movie was on, took one look at the kids on the TV screen, and immediately pounced for the remote. They are by no means ready for Carol Anne and her antics.

...............

The kids carved their pumpkins all by themselves this year and were very proud of their work. Vance named is Sullivan, mine was Hot Lips...
and Vaughn's was a 3 eyed alien.

Halloween was fun despite the cold and windy weather. We covered a lot of ground in a short about of time with Vaughn (Vance ditched us and went with friends) but after an hour and a half, she had had enough and wanted to go home. "I'm cold!" she yelled in return after warning her not to stand too close to a neighbor's fire pit. We beelined it home and spent the rest of the time handing out candy.

...............

Vaughn was a witch, Vance was Rocky Balboa. The picture doesn't do their costumes justice. Vaughn had cute green sparkly stars painted on her cheek, Vance's robe had the Italian Stallion logo on the back. I made his shirt underneath with the matching logo.

Hope you all had a great Halloween!

I remember you and Katie watching Watchers in the Woods! I also remember watching Children of the Corn with you in my basement, with you on my laps. We were scared to death and never played hide and seek in the corn fields anymore. And Poltergeist gave me nightmares for months!! I blame Matt Beatty gor that one! :-) Happy Halloween!!

  3. Anne!! Thank you for remembering this and reminding me because I can totally picture it now!! I have an aversion to the name Malachi just because of that movie! Ha! Hope you all had a great Halloween too!
