Totally thought we were done with the snow. It's snowing right now. Grass is covered. Turns out we're in a Winter Storm Warning until tomorrow. Total snow expectation...drumroll...8-12 inches! And to top it off? More gusty winds!

In other news, Justin and I have a date. This Friday, Friday the 13th for those who haven't looked at a calendar lately, will be our very first night out without Vance since we've moved here. (We've been here since Nov. '05) That's right folks! We will wear fancy grownup clothes! We will drive the car without the car seat! There will be no toys, sippy cups, diapers, or wipes in my purse! We will have grownup, uninterrupted conversations! We will not eat our food at warp speed because our child is bored with sitting at the table! I'm a little excited! Also, a little nervous. This is the first time we've left Vance with a stranger. Iris the babysitter came with outstanding references. She is the only babysitter that our neighbors use and they've been using her for the past 6 years. And I like that she knows the neighbors, just in case anything goes wrong. I'm sure Vance will be fine. He probably is looking forward to a few hours without us too.

I have no idea what restaurant we'll be going to. I need to look online and make reservations today. I will also be Googling how much to pay a babysitter. The last time I babysat I earned $2.50 per kid, per hour. I'm guessing that's not the going rate now. Anyone have suggestions?

$2.50/hour won't cover the tip. When I go down to KC to see the kids the babysitter gets paid on a increasing scale with the amout of cocktails and wine Chris and I partake in. Chris is so happy to be out in adult land that they have no problem getting a babysitter.

Grandparents are free, so I don't know! Guess we need to be there to solve the problem. Have fun. You deserve time out alone and should do it more often. M

I am asking around, but someone at my office said that they pay $5.00 per hour. I hope you guys have lots of fun. I love date night and getting dressed up.

My suggestion, after reading on the net some of the prices for babysitting, would be to pay minimun wage or $7.50 per hour. If you feel a bonus or "tip" is necessary, add it on as you would anywhere else. Good luck. Call your neighbors first, and ask her what she charges before you pay. Hope you don't get snowed in before Friday! M

$7.50 an hour???????????? Shit by the time you pay the babysitter you might be broke! I was going to say $5ish. Better call your neighbor to see what Iris is expecting! I never got paid minimum wage when I babysat. Good luck on this!

  8. i'm so confused right now! the websites i've seen have given the range of $9-$12. $5 seems like not enough. i posted a message asking for help on a local website for madison moms. hopefully someone will give me some guidance.

I pay $7-$8/hour for our babysitters in San Antonio. However, I use a sliding scale...for the hours the kids are asleep I will pay less per hour. I usually pay $30 for 4-5 hours.

I asked some of my students for you. They say people pay around $5-$6 an hour in good old e'ville, but sometimes it just depends on what kind of cash the people have on hand. Most of the girls I asked said they would get around $30-$35 for an evening of babysitting. The girls I asked also mentioned that just because you have more than one kid does not mean that the pay doubles either. (Kristen in San Antonio I am sure does not pay $7 per kid, but that is for two.)

Anyway, hope this helps a little.

Chaisa - You want to remember that your up and coming husband has his rep. to consider so let's not be too cheap. $7.00 minimum -with tip and you get babysitters when you need them. Word will get around.
