My Free Shutterfly Book

On Tuesday night I stayed up until midnight making a silly Shutterfly book. I'm kinda okay with the taking of the pictures portion of the game, but then they just sit on my computer. (Yes, I back up to an external hard drive!) I remember ordering pictures of Vance in February of 2006....and that's the last time I've had any printed out. Let's not even talk about poor little Vaughn's shell of a baby book.

I'm always thinking about this and feel a little guilty, so I decided to hop on one of the many email offers that I get to make a free photo book.

My theme was Summer 2010. I've heard when you're behind in the photo game like I am, it's best to start with current stuff then start to work backwards. It took longer than I thought to do. I wanted to quit, but I didn't. I finished it, but definitely treated it like a free book that I was up waaay too late doing. (Guess I should admit that the offer expired that night, so I couldn't work on it the following day.) Meaning, it's not my best work.

I'm not going to start photo-booking everything, but at least it's a start!

  1. I am trying to find time to do my own photo books as well. I just can't find the time. I need to spend a day and evening at least putting together a few books. You have motivated me. Maybe I will try to do something soon. Have you thought about using the apple photo books? I think I am going to try it out.

  2. I've looked at the apple photo books. I like the fact that I don't have to upload my pics to a secondary source with that option. I like the wire bound books. I feel that the pages of the normal bound books will just tear out over time. Honestly, it's all overwhelming. There's so many options on what to do.

I kind of like the idea of just picking a few pictures to summarize each month and then putting them together at the end of the year, in addition to all the birthdays, holidays, and bigger events. Down the road, I think it will be nice to remember some of the simple, everyday events that get lost in the shuffle.

I've also made a few movies, which are super easy on mac's. I'm just not sure on how I want to preserve all these memories. Something tangible I can hold or just something I can see on a screen?

  3. Congrats! And yes, I know what an achievement that is because after working on mine for many, many hours I quit.

I am way too behind on photo books, so I spent way too long going through way too many pictures. I was (foolishly) trying to do a whole year, so of course, I had too many pictures and my book autofilled to 99 pages. At which point I gave up. But atleast the photos are now on the site for when I get up the courage (and 12 hours of free time...)to try again.

  5. I used to have my photos printed from Bonus Print. Then I would put them into albums. Now I'm thinking that a photo book would be a better option and easier to carry around with you.

My husband and I have done several as gifts for family members and friends who are from different countries that come and visit us. They turn out so nice. We've done them with the Apple application. It takes forever, but turns out really good.
