Spooky Halloween Lamp Shades

I have seen themed chandelier lamp shades in many magazines and am always blown away by the price. I decided to try making some of my own and discovered that felt sticks to the material of the lamp shades. As in no gluing and no sewing! A craft-iracle! Let's go!

I first start by doodling. Once the idea is drawn, cut it out so that you're able to make a stencil. Trace it onto the felt and cut your design out.

Here's a tip for tracing onto a dark color: Trace the outer edge with chalk.

Once the pieces are cut simply press them onto the lamp shades.

(Quick Question of the Day: What's Spookier: the ghost or the hot-glued gold trim on the lampshades that the previous homeowner left that I've never changed out? It's a toss up!)

For the ghost's eyes, I used a paper punch to punch 3 circles and used a glue stick to adhere them.

Think of all the possibilities for! Such a simple idea that makes quite the impact.

Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Shades look great! Saw you latest tweet on your sidebar about the Casper movie. I feel the same way about kids movies. Did they have to put the stupid, shut up and hitting in there. Come on!

  6. Thanks for the great comments everyone!

Megan - I know! Before the movie ended there was 2 more B's, a D and all around foul language. I didn't even check the movie rating - silly me! I just figured Casper the Friendly Ghost would be kid appropriate!

What adorable Halloween decorations! Seeing the decorated lampshade reminded me that I have some black lampshades for the dining room chandeleir that I forgot about. Will save my egg carton and attempt to make those bats and buy the Halloween ribbon if I can find it at Michael's..or A.C. Moore. I'm hosting a dessert party for a neighbor's birthday toward the end of October. This will be perfect. Maybe I can find some already made up at the party or craft store.

  31. This is a great idea. I was just thinking, I could use the chandelier in my dining room. It's directly above the table that I use for food. Loving the bats. Thanks for sharing on Sunday's Best Linkup. Looking forward to seeing more posts from you.
