Hot Zone for Hostility

Welcome to our laundry room. It's tiny, yellow, and has 3 doors.
It's a Hot Zone for Hostility.

The shoebox room is approximately 6' by 6' - whoever thought that adding an extra door clearly wasn't thinking things through correctly.

Door number 1 leads to the garage, door number 2 opens to a closet, and door numero 3 closes it off from the kitchen.

Door number 2 gives door number 3 a little high five every time it closes. How's that for calculation!?! (The architect: Phew! It fits!)

3 of us have been stuck in this room at the same time wearing snow gear and it was like a cage match. The shouting. The maneuvering of bodies. We were trying to get the gear off and get into the kitchen but you can't open the door when the gear is on the floor and, AND...! No one won.

There is a plan to re-do this room in the future. Cabinets will be hung over the washer and dryer. A table will be installed over the washer and dryer to make a flat surface. Most importantly, door number 2 will be forever removed and built-in cubbies for the kids will be installed in the closet.

But until that day arrives, we have to make the best of it. I hung Command hooks inside Door 2 at the kid's level so they can hang up their coats by themselves. They are also great at taking their shoes off and carrying them around the corner to the other hall closet where the shoe basket is.

This was a happy accident that happened back when we lived in Wisconsin. I had bought a magnetic curtain rod but wasn't able to use it on the, ahem, non-metal door so I set it on top of the washing machine to return to the store. It stuck and so I moved it to the side and it's been there ever since. I don't dry a lot of things so having any extra hanging space is a huge plus.

A cute saucer holds the soap cup and catches the drips. Surprisingly it's held up in all the cage matches.

There you go. A peek into the room of the house that brings out the hostility. Any Hot Zones in your house that make you a little  hostile?

  1. I know the joys of a small laundry room myself. Luckily I have only 2 doors not 3 and mine is a bit bigger than yours. I do love what you've done with yours! The bright color is awesome!

  2. Thanks Lori! Unfortunately, the bright color is part of the problem - the entire house was that color when we moved in and we've slowly been painting. Since we'd like to re-do that room in the near future we haven't painted it yet. I like the idea of a bright color though! Thanks for visiting!
