Reclaiming the Dining Room: Part 2

I am relieved to announce that the wood is up and that I do not want to take it down.

It was scary, I'm not going to lie. When there were only 3 boards up Justin and I didn't like it all. We agreed to finish the right side and if we still didn't like it we would stop there and start calling drywaller's the next morning. (Each piece is screwed and glued. Removing it without drywall damage is not an option.)

Thing is, we would have preferred the whole wall to be the silvery-gray color but the wood guy didn't have enough gray boards at the time. We ended up picking out other boards that we thought would work but unfortunately, it was dusk when we were "shopping" and the browns looked more gray in the dark. Oops.

Finding a pattern that worked took forever. Justin would hold boards up, I'd stand back and take a picture, then we'd decide which looked the best and continue down the wall. Plus, we wanted both sides to follow the same pattern so that limited our options, color wise, as well.

The roughness of each board added to the scare factor as well but I kept reminding myself that's why I like this look. It's not supposed to be perfect.

The top picture seems to look more contrasted on the computer screen. I think it looks better in person.

I wish I could say that the dining room is done, but it's not. It feels great to be one big step closer though!

Here's what's left on our to-do list:
*crown moulding* *curtains* *art*
*deciding to paint the rest of the walls*
I'm thinking black paint. Justin thinks I'm crazy. Am I? What do you think?

  1. Looks great...the other color gives it character and I love the idea of black...but I've told you that before. Need to find a dealer around here. So funny my post for tomorrow is on our dining room furniture that we painted! Good minds think alike ;)

  3. I love your wood wall. We did something similar in my son's room except we used leftover laminate flooring. It was so scary at the end wondering if we'd have enough to finish. Luckily it worked out! I love the character of the wood. I think black walls would be very nice. If you don't like it you can always paint over it.

  5. This looks amazing! I think the variation in wood color looks so much better than it would had it been all the same color. This is one very beautiful "accident"!
