Make This: 3D Butterfly Picture

Vaughn is still very much into butterflies, so when she wanted to get crafty one day, I knew this was the project. I wish I could take credit for this idea, but I can't. It was someone else's brilliant idea. Here's the How To in case you need one too.

Use watercolors to fill pieces of paper with color. We used Prang paints, which tend to be brighter than Crayola, and used heavy watercolor paper, but I don't think that was necessary. I say use what you have on hand! Let the paper dry and use a butterfly punch...to punch butterflies out.

I did have to buy the butterfly punch. Use your weekly Michael's coupon to get a deal!

While you're waiting for your paper to dry, paint a canvas and let it dry.

Give the butterflies a little fold down the center and arrange them.

I stepped in to do the hot glueing. Use just a bit of glue on the fold of the butterfly and press it down onto the canvas. This step took a bit of patience, but it's worth it though!

So fun and ready to hang!

Have a great day!

  1. This is wonderful! It made my heart sing. You're so lucky to still have a little girl who is butterfly crazy. I just know Vaughn is going to be the most amazing artist. Color seems to dance through her mind like words or rhythm. And, yow(!), she sure is getting prettier by the day too.
